Josh CastanedaDVMAfter his graduation from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, Dr. Josh joined Cass Veterinary Services. He is a member of American Veterinary Medicine Association, Illinois Veterinary Medicine Association, as well as an Alumni member of Omega Tau Sigma (OTS) veterinary fraternity. Dr. Castaneda still hosts students from OTS to help during rescue days, and help them practice their surgical skills. It is with mixed emotions we announce that our Dr. Nikki Pfeiffer is no longer practicing full time with Cass Veterinary Services. Although we miss her and her expert and dedicated care for our clients and patients, we are happy for her as she moves forward to old stomping grounds and new opportunities.
Dr. Nikki has returned to suburban Chicago to be near family. She plans to return monthly to work with equine patients and possibly do some fill in clinic work when needed.

Dr. Pfeiffer grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. As a child, her family lived in South Korea for several years. After completing her undergraduate degree at Benedictine University, Nikki pursued her veterinary degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Following veterinary school, she completed an equine surgery and medicine internship at a large surgical center in New Jersey. She stayed on several years as an associate equine veterinarian, but knew she would eventually return to the Midwest. In February 2014, she moved to Springfield and joined an equine exclusive practice. After three years, the practice dissolved and Dr. Pfeiffer joined Cass Veterinary Service in May 2, 2015.
R.L. ZellerDVMDr. Zeller grew up on a farm near Alexander and always found the various animals fascinating, so becoming a veterinarian was a natural progression for him. She lives on a hobby farm with her husband and they have dogs, cats, horses, chickens, fainting goats and a miniature donkey. She has fostered many dogs and cats over the years, and volunteers her time at the local shelter advocating for homeless animals.

TerrieVeterinary Technician – Jacksonville clinicA self-described lifelong animal lover, Terrie has worked with veterinarians for many years. Cass Veterinary Services gained Terrie’s vast experience when they acquired Dr. Zeller’s practice in May 2017. Terrie worked with Dr. Zeller for more than 37 years, combining her pleasure of working around animals with the necessity of feeding her own.
Terrie is a lover of all animals, but has a special interest in Morgan horses, Australian Cattle Dogs, geese ducks and chickens.
KeriReceptionist – Virginia ClinicKeri was born and raised In Virginia, Illinois. With almost 20 years in customer service, she has been a great addition to the Cass Veterinary Services team since she joined in August of 2017.
A lifelong lover of all animals, Keri’s compassion for our patients and family member clients is a great addition to our staff. When not at the clinic, Keri can often be found spending time with furbaby loves, dog Zoey, and cats Fiona and Cali.
RachaelReceptionist - Jacksonville ClinicRachael’s work background in both the medical and customer service fields made her a great addition to our Jacksonville clinic. A Jacksonville native, Rachael works part time while completing her college major in dental hygiene.
An animal lover who has never lived without a pet around, working at our clinic allows her to be around animals of many kinds. She loves spending free time with her Shar Pei at local dog parks meeting new pet and human friends.
KrisGroomer - Jacksonville ClinicKris was born in California and lived in North Carolina before settling in the Midwest. She always thought she would be a veterinarian, but ended up taking another path. Her grooming work began when she spent ten years grooming 20 poodles her family raised. Kris was also a junior handler and showed in conformation and obedience.
After obtaining a cosmetology license, Kris later realized she preferred grooming animals over people. It's easy to see that animals have always been a big part of her life, so when she saw a job listing that said, 'must love animals', she knew it was for her. That was more than 27 years ago when she started working at Dr. Zeller's office. Cass Veterinary Services is happy to have her join our team.
Morgan W.Groomer - Virginia ClinicMorgan has been with Cass Veterinary Services since 2013. She began her grooming career early in life after taking grooming classes at age 15 to see if she wanted to pursue the field. She fell in love with grooming and began working at a local veterinary clinic where she worked until she graduated from John Wood Community College with an Associates degree in Animal Science.
In 2012, Morgan became a young entrenpreneur when she opened her own grooming business in Griggsville Illinois. She continues her education by attending seminars and learning the newest techniques.
She was raised on a small farm in rural Brown County and has nutured every type of livestock and small animal. Her dedication and loyalty to grooming goes much farther than just a bath and a shave. She loves the feeling of comforting the scared client and making their experience in her care a welcomed event.
MadisonVeterinary Technician - Virginia ClinicMadison is a Beardstown High School graduate and recently received her associates degree in Veterinary Technology at The Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College.
Madison started as a Kennel Assistant with Cass Veterinary Services in 2014 and has assisted in the clinic during college. Her favorite areas of treatment are dental services, surgery and appointment assists.
She has loves her Chihuahua, Wiley, and her Indian Ringneck, Cuddles.
Lisa C.Kennel Assistant - Virginia ClinicLisa has worked with our clinic for ten years. She started as a weekend Kennel Assistant in our Ashland clinic. In 2010, she moved to our Virginia clinic as a Kennel Assistant.
SteveVeterinary Technician - Jacksonville Clinic
Steve grew up in Peoria Heights, IL. He and his family moved to Jacksonville for his son to attend the Illinois School for the Deaf.
Steve is a Certified Veterinary Assistant and has worked with several rescue groups, most recently with PAWS in Jacksonville. He has a passion for animal rescue and veterinary medicine and is licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture to foster animals. Steve has three dogs, Sky, Princess, and Apollo and one cat, Emory. Special needs cases are of special interest to Steve and he claims, 'I have never met a dog i can't make friends with.'
NancySecretary - Ashland Clinic
Nancy joined Cass Veterinary Services in June after retiring from 38 years with the IL EPA. Born and raised in Ashland, Nancy loves all pets. She is owned by two cats, O'Malley and Patches, and a German Shorthair named Luther.
StacyReceptionist - Jacksonville Clinic
Stacy is a Jacksonville native and the mom of a 12 year old son and a 4 year old charcoal Labrador. She joined our practice after working several years in the pediatric field.

SarahSmall and Large Animal Technician - Virginia Clinic
Sarah joined Cass Veterinary Services in October 2018 as a tech in our Jacksonville clinic. She has transitioned to our large animal tech in our Virginia clinic. She grew up in Beardstown and currently lives in that area. Prior to joining our team, she worked with the Morgan County Sheriff's department and continues to work there part-time.
Her fur family includes her Harley pup and a horse named Beauty. Although working with all of our patients, Sarah's favorite areas of interest are canine and equine.
Mindi began working with our clinics in May 2017 when we acquired the Jacksonville Clinic. She works alternating Saturdays in our Virginia clinic as a receptionist. She is a big help when she steps in with special projects and fills in for staff absences.
Mindi also works in the Virginia school lunch room.
AbbySmall Animal Technician - Virginia clinic
Abby joined our staff in June as an intern. Her work ethic quickly moved her into a full-time position as a Tech.
The U of I graduate grew up on a farm outside of Jacksonville and is the mama to a Beau, an Aussie pup, a Malamute named Jarvis, and 'lots of cows'.
